Welcome to Heloh! The objectives of this site is provide users with free easy to use and customizable blogging software. To accomplish this, we use a software called WordPress, hosted version of the open source package where you can start a blog in seconds without any technical knowledge. We’re a bit of an underdog, as there are much larger hosted blogging services such as Blogger or TypePad that have been out for years, but with the numerous number of requests, we had no choice but to release this site. Hosting over hundreds of users that range from teachers, students, researchers, professionals, librarians, engineers, athletes, technicians and many more; we are rapidly growing in size. We do not aim for becoming larger than Blogger or TypePad, but rather, we strive to provide our users with the best support and features they need.

As you can see, we are still working on Heloh! Although it is underconstruction, we did enable new blog registrations. We already have a large number of registered blogs and an even larger number of registered users. If you wish to see what our service is all about, feel free to register for a new blog now!

Heloh! is built on WordPress technology and that means you get a lot more than just a blog. As well as being able to post, your users can also create static pages (great for eportfolios!) manage comments in incredible detail, set static front pages, password protect individual posts and create powerful muti-tiered and complex websites… without ever needing to know one iota of html.

About WordPress

WordPress started in 2003 with a single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer users than you can count on your fingers and toes. Since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

Everything you see here, from the documentation to the code itself, was created by and for the community. A Little History

WordPress was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal publishing system built on PHP and MySQL and licensed under the GPL. It is the official successor of b2/cafelog. WordPress is fresh software, but its roots and development go back to 2001. It is a mature and stable product. We hope by focusing on user experience and web standards we can create a tool different from anything else out there.

There are simple step-by-step instructions in and if you want to export back to them – we’ve got that covered too… not that you’d ever want to of course. Or, you can just use the export feature to back up your blog.

What’s more, bloggers can customise every sidebar using the Widget system, insert their own headers into many themes (through our simple in built cropping system) and even select the look and feel for those with alternative CSS displays. What is a Theme?

Fundamentally, the WordPress Theme system is a way to “skin” your weblog. Yet, it is more than just a “skin.” Skinning your site implies that only the design is changed. WordPress Themes can provide much more control over the look and presentation of the material on your website.

A WordPress Theme is a collection of files that work together to produce a graphical interface with an underlying unifying design for a weblog. These files are called template files. A theme modifies the way the site is displayed, without modifying the underlying software. Themes may include customized template files, image files (*.jpg, *.gif), style sheets (*.css), custom Pages, as well as any necessary code files (*.php). Themes are a whole new ball game. Let’s say you write a lot about cheese and gadgets. Through the innovative use of the WordPress Loop and template files, you can customize your Cheese category posts to look different from your Gadgets category posts. With this powerful control over what different pages and categories look like on your site, you are limited only by your imagination. Using Themes

Heloh! supplies over 100 themes in its distribution for your initial use. You can switch between these two themes using the admin panel. Themes that you add to that directory will appear in the Administration Panels > Design > Themes as additional selections.
